UConn Extension People Empowering People (PEP) Program

The UConn People Empowering People (PEP) Program is a dynamic personal, family, and civic leadership development initiative with a strong focus on community engagement and empowerment.

PEP Communities Program

The UConn PEP Communities Program is designed for adults and older teens. It builds on the unique strengths and life experiences of each participant, emphasizing the powerful connection between personal growth and community action.

This adaptable program is offered in a variety of settings across Connecticut, including schools, family resource centers, community organizations, and faith-based institutions.

PEP at Correctional Institutions (PEPCI)

For over two decades, UConn Extension has partnered with the Department of Correction to offer the UConn PEP at Correctional Institutions (PEPCI) Program. Modeled after the community-based PEP program, PEPCI focuses on personal and family leadership development with the goal of reducing recidivism.

The program encourages participants to reflect on their lives, recognize their strengths, and take responsibility for their future. Through the support of dedicated volunteers, PEPCI fosters empowerment and the development of skills that support successful reintegration into society.

Why PEP Matters

The UConn People Empowering People Program is more than a leadership course—it's a catalyst for personal transformation and community change. Participants gain confidence, communication skills, and a deeper understanding of how they can make a difference in their families, neighborhoods, and beyond.

  • Community Projects: Participants design and implement projects that address real needs in their communities.
  • Supportive Environment: Facilitated by trained volunteers and educators who foster trust, respect, and growth.
  • Lifelong Impact: Graduates often go on to take leadership roles in schools, local government, nonprofits, and more.
